Rescue Great Day brought technical rescue teams to Seville, Spain, from April 29 through May 2, 2026. I traveled with Nectar Rescue to document their experience and the people behind the work.
The competition brought teams into demanding scenarios that required more than speed. Every operation started with a problem to understand, a plan to build, and a team working together to carry it out safely.
The Work Before the Movement
Some of the most meaningful moments happened before anyone was on a rope. Equipment checks, conversations about the plan, and the small adjustments made along the way all showed the preparation behind each scenario.
Being embedded with Nectar Rescue gave me a chance to follow that process closely. My background in the fire service and technical rescue helps me understand the work in front of the camera and anticipate the moments that tell the story.
Learning Across Teams
Rescue Great Day brought together professionals from different countries and backgrounds. Watching teams approach problems in different ways was a reminder that there is always something to learn.
The conversations between scenarios mattered just as much as the competition itself. Teams shared ideas, compared techniques, and built connections that will continue beyond the event.
Telling the Story
For Cid Media Services, the goal was to document the people, the preparation, and the decisions behind technical rescue. The photographs and video offer a closer look at the teamwork and problem solving that define the experience.
I’m grateful to Nectar Rescue for welcoming me alongside the team, and to Sterling, Yates, and Team Wendy for supporting the coverage. Thank you to the organizers, rescuers, and everyone who made the event possible.
